The majority of my photographic output is black and white. Since my introduction to the medium, monochrome images have always resonated with my vision and senses. The emotion I want to express works to a stronger degree in black and white. When totally eliminating colour the subject is isolated, as it removes the diversity and distractive quality of colour.

Through my body of work I attempt to capture scenes depicting a sense of isolation, conveying two emotional responses that exist from such a state, experiencing either a pleasant and undisturbed peaceful feeling or a darker isolated feeling which could be negative and restricting. These photographs have significance beyond the simplistic aesthetics of their composition. It goes beyond the physicality of the photograph or one of the objects represented in the images. This portfolio attempts to create a narrative within the abstraction of the isolated subjects portrayed. By keeping the compositions focused on an emotive theme, the viewer can interpret these feelings as either positive or restrictive.
